Majority leaders voices concerns of longterm effects of the change.
As the runup to the November election continues to heat up, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnel delivered a message to members of the Senate if they were to win a majority in the fall. Senator McConnell said on Thursday that it is critical to keep in mind “you may not be in total control in the future. And any time you start fiddling around with the rules of the Senate you always need to put yourself in the other fellow’s shoes and just imagine what might happen when the winds shift.”
The Senate Filibuster allows minority members of the Senate to push off votes for bills they oppose by physically speaking for as long as they are able. A vote of 60 members of the Senate is required to end debate and is not a constitutional requirement. Speaker McConnell did however defend the elimination of the filibuster for judicial and executive appointments.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- That God would use Senator McConnell to pass legislation that is good for the nation.
- For the Senate to work together to form a more perfect union
- That God would give senators wisdom on whether they should end the filibuster.
